What this is
AEC Commons is an open community for the people who scan, model and build: BIM and VDC teams, scanning and survey firms, architects, engineers, contractors and owners. Anyone can read. Members sign in with their email to take part.
It is run by Moving Atoms, a scan-to-BIM company. We built it because there was no good public place for this work: subreddits without moderators, answers lost in chat, and LinkedIn feeds full of ads. We hold ourselves to the same rules as everyone else.
House rules
- Real people. Use your real name. Say what you do. Keep your profile current.
- No marketing. Don't promote products or services in topics or rooms. Vendors, Moving Atoms included, may answer questions about their own products when asked, and may announce launches in Launches only, with a real demo, pricing and who is behind it. Say when you work for a vendor.
- Pay shown. Every job, freelance and subcontract post shows a pay or budget range.
- Be specific and kind. Ask with versions, screenshots and what you tried. Answer the question, not the person. Downvote wrong answers, not people.
- Respect client confidentiality. Only share scans, models and project details you are allowed to share. Strip site names and coordinates when in doubt.
- Credit others. Link sources. Mark the answer that solved your question.
Moderation
Report anything that breaks the rules with the Report link. Moderators may hide posts, lock threads, and remove accounts that spam. If you think we got it wrong, post in Feedback.
Privacy
Your email is never shown. Your name, role, firm, region, tools and posts are public. Ask us to delete your account at any time from Feedback or by email at [email protected].
